Lightweight Clay Brick Description
Lightweight clay brick or so called light clay insulating brick is insulating brick which contains 30%~45% of Al2O3. The mineral composition of lightweight fireclay bricks is similar to that of dense fireclay bricks. The main raw materials of lightweight clay bricks are chamotte or light clinker and plastic clay. Usually used methods for lightweight clay bricks production is combustion, or chemical method, foaming method, etc, so produced lightweight fireclay bricks have porous structure, good heat insulating property, low thermal conductivity, etc. When batch material is prepared, it mixes with water to make plastic mud material or slurry material, then green light clay brick is produced by squeezing method or casting method. After drying, green lightweight clay bricks are sintered at 1250~1350℃ oxidizing atmosphere.
Lightweight Clay Brick Characteristics
Lightweight fireclay brick has high porosity, low bulk density, excellent heat insulating performance and thermal shock resistance, equipment heat loss is greatly decreased.
Lightweight clay brick raw material is abundant, the price is low, with good economic effect.
Lightweight fireclay insulating brick has fairly good mechanical strength and light weight, so kilns or furnaces weight can be greatly reduced.

Lightweight Clay Bricks Applications
Usually used lightweight clay insulating bricks have a bulk density between 0.75~1.20g/cm3, crushing strength between 2.0~5.9Mpa, thermal conductivity between 0.221~0.442W/(m·K) (1350℃). Lightweight clay insulating bricks have a wide range of applications, they are mainly used as insulating lining of different kinds of industrial kilns and furnaces, where doesn’t contact with molten materials or gases corrosion. The max. working temperature of lightweight clay insulating bricks is 1200~1400℃.
